Speedrunning verb - the act of playing a video game with the goal of completing it as fast as possible.

Current Resonance presents Speedrunning, a concert highlighting the virtuosity shared by both musicians and elite gamers; that they are both experts at executing commands on physical interfaces with extremely precise timing. The event begins with a warmup for the hands and proceeds to feature virtuosic fusions between Super Mario Bros and Bach and scored fights between the instrumentalist and gamers.

Special guest, CZR (drums), joins us for a Super Mario 64 70 star drum% speedrun where he completes the classic Nintendo game, Super Mario 64, while using a MIDI drumkit as a controller. After the performance, audience members are welcome to stick around to try out playing the game console with the MIDI Drumkit controller.

Current Resonance

is a Denmark-based composer/performer ensemble made up of Dylan Richards, Joss Smith, Matthew Grouse, and Michael Hope. Since 2019 they have put on nearly 50 events, comprising unique programmes of music almost exclusively composed within the last 15 years. Their approach involves holistic curation where each aspect of the event experience is composed with and threaded into the overarching event concept.

Their curated activities span, amongst other things, nights at the cinema; online and physical community building and participation; tightly knit programmes of acoustic and digitally mediated music; concerts boasting invented genres; instrumental theatre; installation art; and platforming / producing the work of up-and-coming artists.

CZR

is the pioneer of drum speedrunning and holder of over 85 drum speedrun world records, He is constantly pushing the boundaries of what's possible in gaming. His main focus is on Super Mario 64, all played on real hardware, but he also explores a variety of games with his unique drum controls. Using custom hardware and BOME for MIDI to keyboard translations, he ensures an authentic and innovative gaming experience. His work has been featured in publications like The Gamer, Nintendo Life, and Eurogamer.

Jeppe Ernst

With his radically reduced works, Jeppe Ernst fundamentally questions our traditional ways of thinking about music, both in terms of the musical expression itself and the way it is presented to us. By removing all unnecessary layers of a work Jeppe Ernst seeks to illuminate its most essential idea, often eliminating one or more of the most basic musical parameters in the process – such as, for example, the audible sound.

Yuri Umemoto

is a composer who works with notation, instruments, recording, and digital editing. His style is shaped by influences from internet culture, Japanese anime and pop culture, as well as his roots in Christian music, Catholic sacred chant, and classical music traditions.

Alexandra Hallén

is a multi-faceted artist, composer and performer who explores the boundaries of herself and the audience. By using objects, she brings reality into the art, and thus provoke genuine emotions and bodily reactions: e.g. to bathe in ice to feel real cold, and cut into onions to bring out real tears. As a cellist Alexandra Hallén is as passionate as she is bold and are known for her work of details and passionate energy. Her willingness to always push the boundaries of cello playing and explore new extended techniques has resulted in close collaborations with many composers.
